Alexa Tablet 12 Pro review of the graphite Nanomatte model: 12-inch 2.8K screen, Google Play, and Alexa+. Skip it if you only needed a Fire for video.
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro review, short version: buy the graphite Nanomatte if you want a 12-inch Android tablet that runs Google Play and keeps Alexa on the screen, and $549.99 is acceptable. Skip it if you wanted a cheap Fire for Prime Video. The standard display is $499.99. The Alexa Tablet 11 starts at $329.99.
This is a new line, not a Fire HD refresh. Shipping was scheduled from October 14 in the US. Treat early star ratings as a small sample.
TechForOwners verdict: 7.5/10 if you already live in Alexa and want a real tablet. Too much money if the job is Netflix on the couch.

Amazon’s speed claim is against its own older tablets, nearly 3x on processing and 9x on graphics. That is not an iPad comparison. Independent tests were thin at launch.
What the Nanomatte screen is for
The $50 step up is an anti-glare coating Amazon developed with Corning. It is meant to cut reflections without the usual matte smear. Peak brightness is about 500 nits, so a sunny window is fine and a bright patio is a maybe. The 3:2 shape is better for reading and split screen than for film. Movies will have bars. Kindle mode is the feature that matches the coating: notifications quiet down, and Amazon rates that mode at about 20 hours.
A 120 Hz panel is the other half of the fee. Scrolling feels smoother than a 60 Hz Fire. It does not make the chip an iPad Pro.
Alexa+, apps, and the Prime catch
Google Play is the real change. You can install the apps a Fire still argues about. Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, and Amazon Music are built in and share a login.
Alexa+ is on the device and, on Amazon’s own wording, available with a Prime membership. Timers, smart-home controls, and camera checks work as they do on an Echo Show. The newer assistant features need Prime. Do not buy a $550 tablet only for Alexa+ if nobody in the house has it.
The pen and keyboard are extra. A productivity bundle was listed at $699.99. Price those before you call this a laptop replacement. IP52 is splash resistance, not a pool rating.
Compare Amazon Alexa Tablets
Buy the 12 Pro if the matte screen and the larger page matter, and the house already runs on Alexa. Buy the Tablet 11 if $330 is the budget and 64 GB is enough. Buy an iPad if you need school apps, a longer update record, or a case ecosystem that already exists. Buy a Fire if the only job is Prime Video under $200.
Who it is for
Buy the graphite Nanomatte at $549.99 for a kitchen-table tablet: recipes, Kindle, a camera feed, and the Play Store. Trade-in can take 20% off if Amazon accepts the old device.
Skip it as a first tablet for a kid. Skip it if you will not pay for Prime and do not care about Alexa. Skip the bundle unless you already wanted the pen and keyboard. And skip it over the $499.99 standard display if you mostly watch video in a dim room. The matte coat is for lamps and windows, not for a darker movie.
